Schools play an important part in the life of our Young Carers, and we work hard to help teachers understand the support we can offer.
We work with schools to identify any special educational needs, difficulties with numeracy/literacy, forming relationships with peers, and above all, to help teachers identify and support Young Carers.
We have organised a number of Sibling Support Days, working with Special Schools, to bring our Young Carers into the schools attended by their siblings. Headteachers and parents' feedback show just how positive an experience this has been for all the children involved.
In addition to the existing schools services we now offer outreach support within local schools and have been making staff and pupils aware of the issues facing Young Carers through interactive assemblies and staff briefing sessions.
We have had a fantastic response with each of the schools providing facilities and time for support sessions for young carers.
"To have a parent who is ill can make school even more challenging. It's good to know that Andover Young carers is there to help."
