Hello my name is Michelle Pelling and I have recently joined the Andover Young Carers Team as their Family Support Worker in November.
I have been working in and around Andover for the last 10 years supporting children and families. In the past I have worked in a local secondary school within a Learning Support Department and latterly worked as a Parent Support Advisor for group of schools in Andover supporting parents with various family issues, anything from parenting, housing, school issues etc. I also ran Triple.P parenting courses locally for all parents that wanted to add to their parenting skills, hopefully making the role of being a parent easier! Some parents here may already know of me from this last role.
My role with Andover Young carers is to work with families giving them support and gaining access to the range of services available in Andover and surrounding area. On my first visit to new families they will be offered support where it is needed. Parents who have children that are already with Young Carers can ask for a referral to me if they feel that some help is needed , housing issues, debt advice, the list is endless .
This is a new role for Young Carers and I am really excited about developing and building this new role. I am also looking to develop the role of “volunteer family mentors” to provide support/help for families.
I am really looking forward to meeting all of you hopefully over the coming weeks
